Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety disorders are among the most common and disabling psychiatric disorders in America and worldwide. About one in four will suffer with an anxiety disorder at some time in their lives. Our psychologists can help you find relief from overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression in a private, safe space.

Your consultation

Before beginning treatment one of our clinical psychologists will conduct a complimentary initial consultation with you. The goal of the initial consultation is to get a better understanding of you, your history with what brings you to therapy, and what your needs are in therapy. We feel the fit between client and psychologist is extremely important, and the consultation is a great start for the client to get a feel for Healthymynds and if we are a fit for their needs. Our goal is to work with you to improve your quality of life.

There are many options for psychotherapy and your therapist will discuss them with you to determine the best choice for you. All treatment is individualized based on the needs of each patient.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

CBT is the most effective form of psychotherapy for the treatment of anxiety disorders and co-occurring mood disorders. There is a large body of research data and clinical experience over the past decades that confirms the effectiveness of CBT to control painful anxiety and self-defeating behaviors.

At the heart of CBT is the powerful principle that your feelings result from the messages you tell yourself. With CBT you will learn to restructure thinking patterns as well as relaxation techniques.  You will learn to identify, challenge and neutralize unproductive and distorted thoughts and new ways of thinking, behaving and reacting to anxiety-provoking situations. CBT offers the opportunity of profound and lasting change in your life.

CBT is short-term focused treatment designed to teach you specific skills to address your symptoms, so that you can reduce symptoms and return to the activities that give life meaning. CBT includes exposure therapy which may be valuable to treat social anxiety and phobias.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PDT)

PDT is another form of talk therapy that may be beneficial for people diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). This form of therapy focuses on the unconscious psychological roots of your suffering. The goal is to help facilitate a deeper understanding of your emotions using self-reflection and self-examination to identify problematic relationship patterns so that you can make better choices. The goal is to help you relieve symptoms so you can lead a better life.

Other treatments of value include:
